Fashion Designer Gbelley Taylor was born in Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. She spent her childhood in West Africa and draws on her experiences. At the onset of the Liberian civil war, she resettled with her family in the United States at age 9. At her parents’ insistence, she studied computer engineering for 2 years but realized that engineering was not her passion. The designer received her artistic training from The Art Institute of Philadelphia in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a fashion design major she learned how to apply artistic principles and techniques to the professional design of commercial  fashions, apparel, and accessories, and the management of fashion development projects. Alongside  her husband, they combined both their talents, fashion design and graphic design, and started 1847 & Co.. 1847 & Co. delivers the best quality and value in fashion. Each piece embodies their commitment to the community, comfort, craftsmanship and authenticity. They seek to inspire ways of thinking
